The DHT11 is the cheapest and most popular temperature + humidity sensor for beginners learning IoT. Inside the DHT11 there's a capacitive humidity sensor and an NTC thermistor for temperature, both processed by a built-in 8-bit chip that outputs a simple bit stream over a single signal wire (a proprietary "1-Wire"-style protocol, different from Dallas's standard 1-Wire).
